If you would like to prevent or reduce the appearance of lines and wrinkles in your face, have you considered cosmetic Botox injections?
Botox is the brand name of a product derived from the bacterium Clostridium Botulinum. When injected into a muscle, it causes it to become weakened or inactivated and so prevents it from moving. This reduces any frown lines and wrinkles so the area will look much smoother in appearance.
By using facial muscles repeatedly throughout a lifetime, our skin creases in areas of greatest use. The ageing process causes the slowdown of collagen and elastin production in the skin so that as you get older, these areas of over-use become damaged, and the lines become permanent wrinkles.
By reducing the movement of muscles in these areas, the skin stops being creased and is allowed to recover, causing the lines to soften or even fade away. In areas treated, the muscles are temporarily inactivated (which is always reversible), during which time you can break the subconscious habit of overusing these muscles. Depending on each individual and the dose used, the response to treatment can vary from relaxation of the muscles to an inability to move muscles.
Botox will be offered in precise areas around the eyes and forehead. Our specialists will determine how much Botox should be injected into the area, as those with deeper lines may require a higher dose. An extremely fine, short needle is used to inject the Botox into the appropriate area, which may cause some slight but brief discomfort. Following treatment, the area may have some slight redness and swelling, which normally resolves in an hour or two.
The procedure should take no longer than 15 minutes.
Before any treatment, you must have a consultation with one of our specialists to determine whether you would be suitable for Botox injections. If it is ok for you to go ahead with treatment, we will arrange a further appointment to administer the Botox and give you a detailed information leaflet to take away for further consideration.
You may notice a change in feeling of the upper face one to two days after treatment. The Botox will usually reach its full effect after seven days, although this may vary for some individuals. Botox is not permanent and will usually last two to six months, when you start to notice an ability to move the muscles more freely.
Please see below our price list. This treatment is not covered by the States contract, so either you or your health insurer will need to pay. As this is a cosmetic procedure, it is unlikely your health insurer will cover the cost, but it is worth checking with them.
Please note that payment must be made on the day of your consultation and/or treatment.
