Weight loss

A range of effective weight loss solutions to support you in reaching your goal weight.

If you’ve been battling with your weight with years of yo-yo dieting and need a new approach, we are here to help. There are so many reasons why people find it hard to lose weight and it can have a significant impact on your physical and mental health. We want to see you thriving and living your life to the fullest.

At the MSG we have two consultants who lead our weight loss offerings, Dr Kate Allen, consultant Physician who runs the Medical Weight Management clinic and Mr Michael Van Den Bossche, consultant surgeon who offers both medical and surgical treatments to induce weight loss.

Medical weight management clinic

The Medical Weight Management clinic offers the treatment Wegovy (also known as Semaglutide) or Mounjaro (also called Tirzepatide), which is an injectable prescription that contributes to weight loss. It is used for adults who are overweight or obese.

The clinic is provided by Dr Kate Allen, consultant physician alongside Claire Morris-McCarthy, specialist dietitian and Becky Pattimore, diabetes specialist nurse. The team will discuss treatment, diet changes and offer demonstrations on how to inject yourself.

The Medical Weight loss clinic is run by consultant surgeon Mr Michael Van Den Bossche, who also offers injectable treatments with Wegovy and Mounjaro to aid weight loss.

For those who would like nutritional and holistic lifestyle support too, Mr Van Den Bossche can refer you to nutritionist Natalie Gillan.

Allurion Gastric balloon

We also offer another option that does not involve surgery – the Allurion gastric balloon programme.

Provided by consultant surgeon Mr Michael Van Den Bossche, the Allurion gastric balloon consists of a 20-minute procedure in which you swallow a small capsule that contains a deflated balloon. Once an x-ray confirms it’s in the right position in your stomach, the balloon is inflated and stays in place for around 16 weeks until it deflates and passes naturally.

With the balloon in place, you feel fuller quicker, meaning you eat less. It’s not a miracle cure, and you do need to do your part, but you are fully supported in your weight loss journey with coaching from our expert nutritionist, who can advise you on dietary and lifestyle changes.

Bariatric Metabollic surgery

If diet and exercise alone hasn't helped, then you can also consult with Mr Michael Van Den Bossche to find out if you are suitable for Bariatric Metabolic Surgery (BMS). These operations induce significant weight loss (up to 100% of excess body weight) and is the only treatment that can put Type 2 Diabetes in remission, meaning that, in the majority of cases, you can come off medication completely.

This service is provided off island at the Spire hospital in Southampton.

If you are unsure which treatment would be right for you we can offer you a consultation with Mr Van Den Bossche to discuss options so he can recommend the most suitable treatment based on your medical history and current circumstances.
