Our story begins in 1992 when a group of 19 doctors who had been based in the island’s GP practices joined together to offer secondary healthcare to islanders as the Medical Specialist Group.
Three years later the MSG agreed a contract with the States of Guernsey to provide secondary healthcare free at the point of delivery to people in Guernsey, Herm and Alderney. No longer did islanders need to put off seeking specialist treatment because they were worried about the cost.
Today the MSG is still owned and run by doctors, delivering a unique consultant-only service that ensures the highest standards of care.
Since opening, we’ve expanded and developed our services, in response to local healthcare needs and the increased specialisation of medicine and surgery. We now have more than 50 consultants and a team of around 90 support staff.
We are very much part of the local community, with our people involved in various aspects of island life socially, in sport, and in the charitable sector.
Some of our consultants contribute their expertise to training programmes and services in developing countries, teaching new skills to less experienced doctors and helping to save the lives of patients across the world. We value sharing our knowledge to help as many patients as possible.
