Dr Zulfiqar Ali joined the MSG in 2016 after 13 years with Stepping Hill Hospital in Stockport, the last six as a consultant. He has extensive experience of invasive cardiology, including coronary angiography, permanent pacemaker implantation and transoesophageal echocardiography.
In addition to his cardiology work he has experience in geriatric and respiratory medicine and has been involved in the leadership and training of junior doctors.
In 2005, following a major earthquake in Pakistan, Dr Ali organised a medical team to travel to the area and treat casualties for two weeks.
Outside work, Dr Ali has had a keen interest in UK politics, serving as a City Councillor between 2008 and 2011 and twice standing as a parliamentary candidate in Stoke-on-Trent.
