Dr Graham Beck trained at Manchester University Medical School, where he qualified as a doctor in 1985. After three years in Edinburgh, he decided to pursue a career in anaesthesia and intensive care, training in hospitals in and around Manchester. He was a Consultant Anaesthetist at Trafford General Hospital from 1994 until he moved to Guernsey to join the MSG in 2001.
Dr Beck is a Fellow of the Royal College of Anaesthetists and of the Faculty of Intensive Care Medicine, on the specialist register of the GMC and a member of the Association of Anaesthetists and the Intensive Care Society.
His specific areas of clinical interest include pre-operative assessment and intensive care.
As governance lead for the MSG for many years, he is responsible for promoting excellent clinical leadership and patient care.
“I chose to study anaesthesia and intensive care medicine because for me it’s the most scientifically detailed aspect of medicine but with a significant number of practical skills. It’s an exciting combination of science and practical learning. One of the most fulfilling aspects of my role is being able to help relatives cope with the stress of a serious ill family member in ICU.”
Outside work, Dr Beck enjoys running and boating. He has run 25 marathons and plans to complete his 26th in 2022.
