He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists and on the GMC specialist register.
He attended medical school in Birmingham, where he also undertook his specialist training and then spent time working in France and with Medecins Sans Frontieres in Angola.
Mr Hopkins is particularly interested in fetal medicine and has developed the obstetric ultrasound service for pregnant women, helping to reduce the risk of a poor outcome. He sees women with complex pregnancies particularly where there is concern over fetal wellbeing. He holds the diploma in Obstetric Ultrasound of the joint Royal Colleges of Radiologists and Obstetricians and Gynaecologists.
He has broad interests in gynaecology including infertility and has expertise in the use of ultrasound in gynaecological diagnosis. He has also kept abreast with the newer minimal access techniques for benign gynaecology.

Outside work, Mr Hopkins is a flying instructor and enjoys boating and running
