Second opinions

You have the right to ask for a second opinion about any aspect of your health care – that right is enshrined in the secondary health contract.

Our doctors welcome second opinions, as long as they are from a regulated and qualified health professional and the advice is evidence-based. Our doctors often seek second opinions themselves, either from colleagues locally or from specialists in the UK.

There is a specific code of practice for healthcare professionals when service users, who are minors, or their guardians on their behalf, with to explore a professional off-island opinion. You can view or download it below.
