Mr Thomas Fysh joined the MSG in 2014, after completing a fellowship in oncoplastic breast, reconstructive and melanoma surgery in Westmead, Sydney.
A Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons, he trained in Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospitals, Kings College and the South West.
Mr Fysh has also trained in cosmetic and symmetrising breast surgery and undertakes primary and revision cosmetic breast surgery. He has achieved Masters degrees in surgical technology and surgical education from Imperial College London.
Since moving to the island, he has introduced breast reconstruction and aesthetic breast surgery and developed the skin cancer service so that patients can now benefit from the latest surgical treatments without leaving Guernsey.
He has also designed and implemented a digital breast unit record system for Guernsey, enabling a comprehensive database of breast patients and those who have had cancer treatment.
“One of the aspects of working at the MSG I particularly like is that fact that my practice is broader than it might be in the UK or elsewhere. Being a surgeon on a small island means that I can get to know my patients on a very personal level, while also bringing with it unusual challenges which I might not otherwise encounter.”
Outside work Mr Fysh's family has built up quite a collection of animals at home and much of his free time is spent dealing with them. Otherwise, he enjoys sea swimming and running, as well the occasional lazy afternoon on the beach - which was another attraction of moving to Guernsey.
