Mr Thomas is a Consultant Gynaecologist and Obstetrician with special interests in menopause care, urogynaecology, and advanced key-hole surgery.
He studied Medical Sciences at Trinity College, Cambridge, and graduated from Oxford University Medical School before training in obstetrics and gynaecology in London, including at the Royal Free and University College Hospitals. He has previously held consultant appointments at three teaching hospitals in the UK. As well as working at the MSG where he is currently the department chair and lead for Urogynaecology, he was made an Honorary Consultant at the Chelsea & Westminster Hospital in 2022.
Soon after his appointment to the MSG in 2016, Mr Thomas introduced key-hole hysterectomy to Guernsey, allowing many more women to benefit from this surgery on-island. He has since introduced effective key-hole procedures for urinary leakage and vaginal prolapse. These advanced techniques allow a faster recovery, earlier discharge from hospital - and give better cosmetic results - compared with traditional open operations.
Mr Thomas is an expert in the treatment of hormonal conditions such as the menopause/peri-menopause, severe pre-menstrual symptoms/PMDD, heavy, irregular or painful periods, endometriosis, vaginal prolapse, urinary incontinence, over-active bladder, premature ovarian insufficiency/POI and other complex women’s health problems. He strongly believes in discussing non-operative treatment with patients before considering surgery, providing a range of options to treat women’s symptoms while preserving or even improving their fertility.
As an accredited menopause specialist, Mr Thomas offers the full range of HRT options for women with troublesome symptoms on a private basis. He offers oestrogen and testosterone implants to selected women. He is also experienced at treating symptoms with new non-hormonal medications for women who cannot use HRT. He has given several talks on menopause health and treatment to Guernsey businesses, in support of local women’s charity Bright Tights and the UK’s Ovacome. As an invited speaker to the Guernsey Menopause Support Group on several occasions, he is always grateful for their warm welcome.
Mr Thomas also set up the Guernsey private obstetric service for women who value more personal care in their pregnancy. He has an interest in safe childbirth which minimises injury to the pelvic floor, having run courses on this in Cambridge on behalf of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists.
You can refer yourself to Mr Thomas as a private patient without a GP referral.
