Mr Tristian Mann has been appointed as the Medical Specialist Group’s fourth ophthalmologist after working as a locum for the group for several months.
Originally from South Africa, Mr Mann worked as a GP for seven years before deciding to specialise. He went on to train under Professor Stegman, a world-renowned glaucoma surgeon, developing his surgical expertise in glaucoma oculoplastic and vitreoretinal.
He moved to the UK in 2019 and worked in the NHS in West Sussex before moving to Guernsey in 2022.
Mr Mann says of his role, ‘I’m always inspired to see the reaction of patients the next day when you have performed cataract or corneal refractive surgery. I find it very fulfilling to deliver excellent care which results in extremely happy patients who can see the very next day how well their surgery has gone.’
Mr Sadeo Kairsingh, the directorate vice-chair of surgery, says, ‘Having known Tristian as a colleague for several months, I’m delighted that he has now been appointed to a permanent role with us as a consultant ophthalmologist. It’s very good news for patients.’
In his spare time, Mr Mann enjoys outdoor activities, including mountain biking. He had a private pilot’s license which he would like to renew. He has kept himself busy during the past year, completing an MBA, learning how to code and to use CAD design software.
