Paula recalls always wanting to be a nurse since childhood. The careers survey at school offered librarian as a suitable job prospect but by her own admission, Paula knew she would not be able to stay silent long enough for success in that role!
Being a nurse at the MSG covers many specialities and Paula enjoys the variety of nursing that is offered here. She likes having the opportunity for maximum direct patient care, together with the fact that no two days are ever the same.
Most of Paula’s patients are seen for short interventions, such as pre- and post-operative care, administering blood tests and ECGs. She also has some long-term patients who require ongoing treatment for conditions such as diabetes and leg ulcers. This requires a wide range of skills in testing and examination, together with communicating important medical information to patients, and their relatives, in a way that is clear, caring and doesn’t overwhelm them.
Paula is a proud mum of two adult sons who are now married and building successful careers of their own. She loves to travel and see her family, being outdoors gardening, playing squash, and contributing as a youth leader.
