Dr Sarra Ahmed joined the MSG in 2021 from Gibraltar where she gained experience of providing a bespoke service to a unique population with limited resources and thinking creatively to coordinate the care of children.
Before Gibraltar, she completed her paediatric training in London working in tertiary centres such as the Evelina London Children’s Hospital and Great Ormond Street Children’s Hospital. She spent two years as a Paediatric Consultant in Hillingdon Hospital in London, where she helped develop an award-winning integrated child health service for people who had difficulty accessing hospital services and improving communication with primary care colleagues.
She says she chose to become an acute general paediatrician because of the hugely rewarding nature of looking after a sick child and providing holistic care to the whole family. She chose to sub-specialise in paediatric gastroenterology when she realised how common conditions such as severe constipation, abdominal pain and inflammatory bowel disease are in children and the impact they have on families and children’s lives.
“The most fulfilling aspect of my role is feeling that I have made a difference for the better in a child and their family’s life - no matter how small.”
Outside work Dr Ahmed loves exploring nature with her family on cliff and beach walks, and cooking, singing and dancing.
