Dr Peter Gomes looks after patients with malignant conditions such as breast cancer, lung cancer and haematological conditions.
He joined the MSG in 2000 from the Royal Hospital Haslar in Gosport, where he was involved in establishing the cancer unit as Consultant Oncologist for all three armed services. He trained as an undergraduate at the University of Southampton Medical School, where he qualified as a doctor in 1984.
After a two-year registrar rotation in general and respiratory medicine in Leeds he joined the medical branch of the Royal Air Force, where he continued his specialist training through posts in Germany and Wroughton.
On completion of his general medical training, he spent three years at Charing Cross Hospital in London, undertaking advanced training in medical oncology.
He is a Fellow of The Royal College of Physicians of both London and Edinburgh, is on the specialist register of the GMC and is a Member of the Association of Cancer Physicians, the European Society of Mastology and the European Society of Medical Oncology.
Dr Gomes has been instrumental in the development of the cancer unit in Guernsey and continues to have strong links with the cancer centre in Southampton, where he holds an honorary consultant appointment.
His particular interests include the management of breast, lung and urological cancers, in addition to haematological malignancy and general oncology. He is a Trustee of the Guernsey Society for Cancer Relief.

Outside work Dr Gomes enjoys family life, keeping fit in the gym, walking and eating out.
