Dr Gopinath Rao, who joined the MSG in 2020, graduated from Chennai, India. He trained in paediatrics and specialised in neonatal medicine in the UK between 2003 and 2014, where he was a Consultant at Hammersmith hospital and St Mary’s Hospital in London.
During his time at a tertiary referral centre in his hometown, Chennai, he improved paediatric and neonatal services and has experience in managing preterm babies as early as 24 weeks. He has a particular interest in helping new mothers and babies with breast feeding issues and is qualified in managing paediatric nutritional problems.
As a dad himself, Dr Rao strongly believes that paediatrics is not just about helping ill children, but also supporting families during such difficult times. He actively encourages families to be part of the decision-making process in their child’s care and feels that it always helps to have good communication between families and health care professionals to achieve best outcomes.
He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health, which helps him keep his clinical and general skills up to date and has enrolled in an MBA in Healthcare management.
Helping children get better is a priceless feeling. I also feel that when children feel better, and are back to their usual routine, it helps their families as well. We have an excellent team of professionals who support each other to help these children and their families.”
Outside work Dr Rao enjoys the outdoor life of Guernsey, taking part in long walks, running and motorcycling.
