The Medical Specialist Group (MSG) has appointed Guernsey-born Dr Michelle Le Cheminant as Chair, officially making her the first female and youngest Chair since the Group’s establishment in 1992.
Dr Le Cheminant joined the MSG in 2019 as a locum Consultant Anaesthetist and was appointed to a permanent position in 2020 and will be stepping up to the role from Deputy Chair.
Growing up in Guernsey, Dr Le Cheminant studied at The Ladies' College before completing her higher education at the University of Cambridge, followed by her MBBS qualification at King’s College London. Dr Le Cheminant became a Fellow of the Royal College of Anaesthetists in 2014.
Dr Le Cheminant said: “Having grown up in Guernsey, the community is extremely important to me. I am enthusiastic to contribute and enhance the excellent specialist healthcare services we have established on the island.
“I am looking forward to stepping into the role of Chair and playing a significant role in influencing the healthcare strategy on the island to ensure that the Guernsey community continues to receive high-quality care.”
Dr Stephen Evans, former MSG Chair, said: “Dr Le Cheminant is going to be a fantastic Chair for the MSG, she brings a wealth of experience and knowledge across anaesthetics and intensive care medicine and has thrived as Deputy Chair. I am looking forward to seeing her shine in her new role.”
Also heavily involved in charitable work, Dr Le Cheminant has volunteered with Orbis International, with recent projects in Vietnam, Malawi and Mongolia. She is a Commissioner on the Guernsey Overseas Aid committee, which is responsible for distributing funds provided by the States to ongoing programmes and to disaster and emergency relief.
Dr Le Cheminant follows on from Dr Evans, who stepped in as interim Chair for three years.
