After more than two years caring for acute medicine patients in Guernsey as a locum doctor, Dr Beejal Patel has been appointed as an acute medicine consultant at the Medical Specialist Group.
Chair of the medical directorate Dr Steve Evans says, ‘Beejal is an excellent addition to the department of medicine and the wider MSG. Her main focus has been acute medicine, but she is developing her subspeciality interest in syncope, the medical term for fainting or passing out.
‘She has made a seamless transition from being a locum to a permanent member of the team and we are all looking forward to working with her in the years ahead.’
Dr Patel originally trained at St George’s Hospital, London, then worked at Poole hospital after completing her specialist training in 2016.
While in Poole hospital she played an active role in service improvement and post graduate training. She was responsible for achieving recognition for the acute medicine advanced nurse practitioner role in acute outpatient care, and developing the nurse led outpatient follow up clinic.
Outside work, she enjoys outdoor pursuits particularly trekking and kayaking.
