In Safe Hands

Mr Richard VowlesMBBS FRCS(ORL-HNS) | GMC Number: 3341056

Mr Vowles joined the Medical Specialist Group in 1999. He trained as a doctor at Guy’s Medical School in London and following graduation in 1989, he undertook a period of general surgical training at a number of London hospitals before deciding to specialise in Ear, Nose and Throat Surgery.

His ENT training included time at some of the leading academic centres in the UK and incorporated all aspects of the specialty, but with particular emphasis and additional training in the management of head and neck cancer at Charing Cross Hospital and The Royal National Throat, Nose and Ear Hospital in London.

He has particular and rare expertise in the removal of tumours using lasers and was instrumental in acquiring a new laser at the Princess Elizabeth Hospital for this purpose.

Mr Vowles has also developed a special interest in facial plastic surgery and the management of skin cancers around the face.

He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons and a member of The British Association of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery; he is on the Specialist register of the GMC, is a member of the European Academy of Facial Plastic Surgery and is on the faculty of training courses both in Southampton and at the Royal College of Surgeons of England.

Mr Vowles has forged links with centres in Southampton and London, to secure the optimal management of head and neck cancer in Guernsey; however, he remains a true generalist and practises all aspects of the specialty, including Endoscopic Sinus Surgery and Functional and Cosmetic Rhinology.
