Mr Benjamin ThomasMA (Cantab) BM BCh (Oxon) MRCOG | GMC Number: 6056562
Mr Thomas is a Consultant Gynaecologist and Obstetrician with special interests in Advanced Minimal-Access Surgery and Urogynaecology – treating menstrual problems, painful intercourse, prolapse, bladder problems and urinary incontinence. He joined the Medical Specialist Group in May 2016.
Mr Thomas studied Medical Sciences at Trinity College, Cambridge, and graduated from Oxford University Medical School. His training in Obstetrics and Gynaecology was at several hospitals in London, including the Royal Free Hospital and University College Hospital. He has previously held Consultant appointments at three teaching hospitals in the UK. Mr Thomas is also currently an Honorary Consultant at University Hospital Southampton, Portsmouth University Hospitals and University Hospitals Bristol.
Mr Thomas performs advanced key-hole surgery and vaginal surgery which allow a faster recovery and sooner discharge from hospital – and also give better cosmetic results – compared with conventional surgery. He specialises in treating period problems, painful intercourse, vaginal prolapse, urinary incontinence and over-active bladder. He also has an interest in safe childbirth which minimises injury to the pelvic floor, and runs courses on this in Cambridge on behalf of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists.
