In Safe Hands

Mr George CooperBSc (Hons), BM, FRCS (Tr and Orth) | GMC Number: 6149810

Mr Cooper is a specialist Orthopaedic Surgeon who arrives in Guernsey from his substantive consultant post at the world renowned Royal Orthopaedic Hospital in Birmingham – one of the largest specialist orthopaedic units in Europe. He specialises in hip and knee problems and is an expert in hip and knee surgery including complex and revision (redo) joint replacements.

After higher surgical training in the West Midlands, Mr Cooper completed the advanced hip surgery fellowship at The Avon Orthopaedic Centre as well as subspecialist knee training at the University Hospital Birmingham and The Royal Orthopaedic Hospital, having obtained the fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons certification in 2016.

Mr Cooper performs a range of techniques which enables him to maximise the outcome and restore movement according to the needs of each patient. He has a research interest to improve joint replacement outcome and has published widely as well as presenting research studies on the national and international stage. One role, within a national trial, was as a principal investigator performing an optimised laser guided hip replacement technique which allows precise positioning according to the dynamic anatomical parameters specific to each patient. Mr Cooper is also certified in robotic joint replacement surgery, as a specialist interest.

Mr Cooper spent time growing up in the Bailiwick and went onto study medicine at the University of Southampton, where he also obtained a biomedical sciences degree. He “retired” from rugby to a spectator role after completing his primary medical qualification in 2007, and he enjoys spending time with his wife and three boys when not at work, and on the water when possible.
