New Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon has joined the MSG

The Medical Specialist Group is pleased to announce the appointment of a highly experienced Orthopaedic Surgeon.

Mr Richard Hopcroft MB.ChB, DM, FRCS(Ed), FRCS (Tr + Orth), joined the Medical Specialist Group on 3 September 2018.

Mr Hopcroft is a lower limb and paediatric orthopaedic specialist. He has come to Guernsey from his previous role at South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, in the North East of England.

Mr Hopcroft undertook medical training at the University of Liverpool Medical School and holds a doctorate of medicine from the University of Nottingham School of Medicine and Surgical Sciences. He continued his specialist training in a number of UK hospitals and has spent time in world respected clinics in North America and is fellowship trained from two centres in Australia. In his sub-specialty, he performs primary and revision surgery for hip and knee arthroplasty, including soft tissue knee reconstruction.

He has experience in teaching and was one of the educational and clinical supervisors for South Tees higher specialist trainee and lectures intermittently on the regional training program, as well as also having experience as an examiner. Whilst leading on a number of audit projects, Mr Hopcroft has also contributed to multiple studies through regional research network. He is responsible for developing and introducing the enhanced recovery program in orthopaedics at South Tees and subsequently wider through the region. In addition, he was a key contributor to the development of the care pathway for patients with hip fractures.

Mr Hopcroft has moved to Guernsey with his wife and two children.
